Name: Auriona S. Dyson
School: Shadow Ridge High School
GPA: 4.931
Auriona is a senior at Shadow Ridge High School, currently ranked number 14 in her class of 720 students. Auriona is an active member in Key Club International, National Honor Society, Best Buddies and a previous member of the Air Force JROTC. She has served in leadership roles in Key Club and Best Buddies throughout her time as a member.
Her commitment to service and helping others is where she is most devoted. Her work with Best Buddies goes beyond the club, but she also serves as a student aide & tutor with the special education department. Her hands on experience with her little brother at home and working with children that are considered disabled, or mentally and physically challenged at school has contributed to her career choice in the future, which is to become a pediatric occupational therapist.
In addition to her service commitments, Auriona is a gifted artist and has taken and excelled in every AP art course her school has offered. Auriona’s amazing portfolio earned her a (4) for AP Drawing as a sophomore and a (5) for AP 2-D Art as a junior. This year her artwork was on display at the Government Center Rotunda Gallery for the exhibit “Reverence: Celebrating Black Cultural Heritage.”
Besides her dedication to school, Auriona is an avid babysitter and works part-time at a local cafe. Although a final decision has not been made yet, Auriona has been accepted into (8) schools with occupational therapy programs, including the top-rated USC Chan Division of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy. With her acceptance to USC, she was also recognized as one of only (20) students in the incoming class admitted to the accelerated Bachelor's-to-Occupational Therapy Doctorate program.
